Saimaa is one of the finest lake areas in the world. I believe that the best way to understand the beauty of Saimaa is to go boating in the Saimaa archipelago. I also think that Saimaa must be kept clean for posterity. That’s why I offer cruising experiences on Saimaa with an electric Ecoboat for small groups. The Ecoboat is Finland’s first tourist-use electric boat, a covered cabin boat that lets you experience Saimaa in comfort in all weathers. In the Ecoboat cabin you sit on soft leather sofas close to the surface of the water and can hear all the sounds of nature. The large windows offer a view in all directions and you can chat with the skipper and other guests. Ecoboat is like a living room floating on the waves of Lake Saimaa, a pleasure for all senses. Ecoboat cruises in summer 2024
- Saimaa ringed seal safaris are my most popular service. The Ecoboat is made for observation and the quiet boat does not disturb the seals. I operate Seal safaris from Mat until the end of September.
- The Saimaa Story Cruises offer a quick stop on lake Saimaa and lots of stories. The cruise is entertaining and as skipper I play the accordion during the coffee break. I will be running the story cruises from Midsummer until the end of August (charters untill October)
- You can also order a private cruise experience for your own group and make requests for the theme and time of the cruise. The theme could be, for example, the Saimaa ringed seal, wild herbs, Saimaa Geopark or the stories of Saimaa.
- Ecoboat Cruises are highly recommended for foreign guests, as the skipper will also tell stories in English, French and German when necessary. The best experience for foreign guests is a private charter cruise, where the skipper can concentrate fully on their cruise experience and one language can be spoken on board.
Ecoboat operates in Puumala, in the beautiful archipelago of Lake Saimaa
- In early summer until June 9th the starting point is the Niinisaari island, and early summer is the high season for seal safaris. The Saimaa ringed seal is in the moulting season and it is very likely that you will see a seal during this time. Nature is also at its most beautiful in early summer when tree leaves come out and migratory birds return to Finland after long winter
- From June 10th until the end of July, Ecoboat departs from Puumala centre harbour. There are plenty of open public departures, and you can also enjoy fried vendace at the Kalakontti harbour restaurant in Puumala harbour.
- From August to September, the Ecoboat operates from Sahanlahti Resort. Evening cruises are at their most wonderful when the sun sets a little earlier, and the atmosphere is very romantic. You can dine at the Sahanlahti restaurant before or after the cruise
